About Online Blackjack

Blackjack is a game which most Indian players will already be familiar with. It is often one of the first card games that people learn to play. The game is also one of the simplest ones you will find at Indian casino sites, so it makes for an ideal introduction for rookies. If you don’t know how to play, though, just follow this guide and you’ll be good to go in a matter of minutes.

How to Play Online Blackjack

You may have heard that to win in blackjack; you need to reach the magical number of twenty-one. That’s not actually, true. To win, all a player needs to do is beat the dealer’s hand.
In blackjack, each card counts for its numerical value, with all face cards counting as 10-point cards, and aces counting as either 1 or 11-point cards. So, for instance, a hand consisting of a 7 and a 6 would equal a hand worth 13 points.

To begin with, players are handed two cards after placing a bet. The dealer will also receive two cards – one of which will be displayed face-up. Players are entitled to hit (take another card) or stand (stick with what they have). Players might also choose to double down or split. Doubling down involves doubling the original stake, and taking just one more card to add to their hand. Splitting is possible if the first two cards a player receives are of the same denomination. A bet equal to the first is made, and the two cards are split into two hands, with each hand receiving just one new card.

The final option open to players is to take an insurance bet. This is possible if the dealer’s face-up card is an ace. You are essentially betting that the dealer has blackjack (a 21-point hand).

Once players have made their decisions, their hand and the dealer’s hand are compared. The highest ranking hand wins. However, it is worthwhile to note that no hand is permitted to go beyond 21 points. If they do, that hand is considered bust and instantly loses. Bear in mind that in most games, the dealer will choose to stand on a 17-point hand. In the event of a tie, the hands are considered a push, and bets are returned.

Strategy & Tips

There are several strategies which players can use to play blackjack. Blackjack Basic Strategy tables can be found across the internet, and studying them can “guide” players in what to do should they have a specific hand. However, the best strategy rookies can start to use is one which details learned when to hit and when to stand.
Generally speaking, the following is advised:

  • Always hit when you have an 11-point hand or less
  • Stand on 12 if the dealer has a 4 to 6-point card showing, otherwise hit
  • Stand on 13 if the dealer has 2 to 6-point card showing, otherwise hit
  • Always stand on a Hard 17 or a hand of greater value
  • Hit on a Soft 17 or a hand of lesser value
  • Stand on Soft 18s, unless the dealer has a 9, 10 or ace showing, in which case, hit
  • Any Soft 19 or greater hand should always see a player stand

Another strategy which is more commonly used for roulette, but works just as well for blackjack in helping players balance their budget is the Martingale System. This system involves doubling a bet following a loss and lowering it following a win. The drawback to this strategy is that is may require players to have a significant balance to endure lengthy losing streaks, and although it has been proven to ensure that players almost always break even, the Martingale System seldom leads to monumental wins.

We do advise players to check out blackjack strategies and test them on out on free to play games, before putting them into practice for real money.

What's our Take?

Of course, there are tips you can incorporate into your blackjack game, too. While you don’t have to put these into practice every time, it does help if you run the rule over them once or twice, to make sure that they are at least in your brain when you play.

Players should never, ever attempt to chase their losses by increasing their bets, at least not without a strategy involved, such as the Martingale System mentioned above. Should they find themselves significantly ahead of what they started with, players are advised to quit. Your luck can change at any moment.

It is advised that players pay attention to the rules of any blackjack variant they choose to play. Each variant has its own rules regarding house edges, when a dealer may stand, and what options are open to players. Check out the rules of these games before you decide to bet on them.

It helps to find free to play blackjack games online. Using these demo games, players can put strategies to the test, and try out the rules of blackjack variants beforehand. This way, Indian players can familiarise themselves with the game (with no risks attached) before they sit down to play for real.
