The greatest things usually have humble beginnings, and this popular slot series is no exception! The series was born when Playtech had to remove its Marvel themed games due to an expired license. Rather than let all of those releases die, the developer opted to give them a re-skin. We doubt they knew the rampant popularity that Age of the Gods would receive! And today, we’re taking a look at what many consider to be the best entry in this series.
We like the music track Playtech put in this slot. You’re dealing with the gods and legends of Greek mythology after all, the track should be suitably epic! The game’s RTP is 95.02%, which is a whole percentage point below the current average. If you like bonuses, you’ll fall in love with this release! It gives you four different free spins, a cash prize special feature, and four progressive jackpots. Take lessons, Don Corleone, this is the type of offer players can’t refuse!
Age of the Gods has good graphics, but they’re starting to show their age. Even then, Playtech was never the go-to developer if you wanted insane visual fidelity. They made up for that by creating engaging gameplay and great prizes, and boy does this videoslot deliver on both fronts! Each free spin round is different than the other. And even when there’s nothing happening, the possibility of winning a progressive jackpot keeps you going.
It was surprisingly hard finding any reliable information about the volatility. Some sources said medium, others claimed high. After playing it for ourselves, we can see why the debate sprung up. Sometimes, you’ll be stuck with absolutely nothing to do but spin until your finger hurts. And at other times, it plays like a regular medium volatility release. The truth, as always, is somewhere in the middle.
You can set your coin value between ₹1.00 and ₹200.00 for each spin. By adjusting their bet per payline, gamblers are also able to change their total bet. Playtech’s release lets you play for as little as ₹20, or you can go all out and stake ₹4000 per spin. It’s a betting spread that will make lots of players happy, either way!
Age of the Gods makes it quite easy to distinguish between the less valuable filler symbols and high paying icons. All of the gods will earn you a decent score! Though, we were surprised to see that Athena was worth more than both Zeus and Poseidon. Lower value symbols include a helmet, and playing card royals Q, K and A.
Pantheon of Power: Collect all five god icons in any order on an active payline to win a 200x cash prize.
Age of the Gods bonus: Land three or more Scatters in any position to activate this special feature. A separate screen is played with 20 coins. Each coin will reveal one of five Greek legends: Athena, Zeus, Poseidon, Hercules, and Hades. Match three coins of the first four deities to trigger their free spins round. However, reveal Hades even once, and the bonus ends.
Athena Free Spins: Athena will award a random win multiplier, ranging between 2x to 5x for each spin.
Zeus Free Spins: Gamblers start with a 1x multiplier, which is increased by one every three spins. A Wild is locked in the middle position of the third reel until the bonus ends.
Poseidon Free Spins: Poseidon can turn up to five symbols on the board into Wilds every spin.
Hercules Free Spins: The third reel is covered by a stacked Hercules Wild.
Progressive Jackpots: This bonus is activated randomly. You are taken to a separate screen where you pick golden coins. Each coin will reveal a different colour. Match three coloured coins to the associated progressive jackpot to win its prize! The progressive jackpot is shared between all games in the series.
The graphics are decent, but their age is starting to show. Playtech’s releases were never the best choice if what you wanted were impressive visuals. Even still, you can tell there’s a fair bit of effort put into the presentation! Each icon plays an animation after the prize is won, even if that animation is quite choppy for today’s standards.
But for slots, gameplay and jackpots are king. And rest assured, that’s the area where Age of the Gods dominates its competition. Each free spins round offers a different type of experience, which we quite like. The higher volatility can be a turn off, but the four progressive jackpots more than make up for it! If you like what you’ve read, go and play it. It has our full support.
